A hacker is a person who finds and takes advantage of the weakness in computer system and/or networks to gain illegal access. They are usually skilled computer programmers with extensive knowledge in computer security. They are classified according to the intent of their actions. The table below classifies hackers according to their intent.
Types of hackers
Ethical Hacker (White hat)
A hacker whose job is to identify and fix vulnerabilities in Computer systems and networks. They perform testing’s by penetrating into the systems, this testing is mostly authorized. (Penetration testing)
Cracker (Black hat)
These are hackers who gain unauthorized access to computer systems, for mostly personal gain. They steal personal data; illegally transfer money from bank accounts and more.
A hacker is lies between the ethical and black hat hacker group. They break into computer systems illegally to identify vulnerabilities, and later reveal these weaknesses to the owner.
A hacker whose motive is mostly revenge. They are vengeful and aggressive, their main aim of attacking computer systems is to destroy or cause ill. They use existing codes for malware and viruses to target businesses or individuals who annoyed them.
Red hat (Caped crusaders)
These are hackers whose main motive is to stop Black hat hackers. They use viruses, Trojan horses and other malware to attack black hat hackers with the aim of destroying their computer systems.
Green hat (Baby hackers)
This are people new to the world of scripting, coding and hacking in general, they mostly are still in the learning phase.
They are more interested in learning how to hack, than actually doing it.
No matter how innocent the name sounds, they still cause problems. They are mostly unskilled people who use already made hacking tools to cause chaos and disruptions.
A hacker who uses hacking techniques to send social, religious, political messages. They do this by hijacking websites, and displaying their messages on these websites. This is a form of civil disobedience.
This is a person or these are people who specialize in attacks on telephone systems, instead of computers. They break telephone networks illegally, mostly to make free long-distance calls
